Budget: Public Overspending during 2005-2006....

I was reading this report by Gulf--Times, a Qatar based newspaper and i was *shocked*! to say the least....
One of the most crucial budget documents of Pakistan containing details about overspending during the concluding fiscal year has a lot of secrets to be unveiled.

These secrets include the spending of hundreds of millions of rupees on the maintenance of a VVIP plane and the payment of import duties on bullet-proof Mercedes Benz cars.

The document, which is to be circulated in the Parliament on June 15 but has exclusively been provided source, gives a detailed account of billions of rupees spent by the government during 2005-06 above its budgetary allocations.

The overspending includes Rs15mn additional pay given to federal and state ministers.

When asked, Minister of State for Finance Omar Ayub Khan told this correspondent that the document - Supplementary Demands For Grants and Appropriations 2005-2006 - would be presented before the National Assembly on June 15, which he said was a normal practice.

Read the article for more details on how the budget was overspent, and what new appropriations are required by various ministries...
