Brand Power !


Why is it that more n more people are deciding not to be original and rip off some other brandname to promote their products? This example is the latest (that i've seen) in ripoff's. It features the brand of Al-Jazeera (complete with logo) on a Car Dealership here in Karachi. Why? Whats so hard about having a creative name up there? Is it necessary to rip off? But on a postive side, it does give an idea of how powerful brand imaging has become in today's economy, and why "Brand Manager" positions are creeping up in almost every organization selling products.

On another note, i once read by Geo.tv that they measured their brand penetration in the market by the amount of products that had literally ripped the Geo logo and name for themselves. Till the first anniversary of GeoTV, we had Geo water, Geo Soap, Geo Washing Power.. and in some instances.. Geo Bus Service as well! Any person from marketting care to give me insight on why is this happening?

Other brands i've found ripped off are ARY, Starbucks (a coffee shop in zamzama) and Burger King (a fastfood restaurant in Tariq Road). The last two are NOT affiliated with their international counterparts.
